your computer can often remedy numerous minor Windows® problems. Running
Chkdsk
or Scandisk
on your system should be a part of your regular maintenance program.
4.
If the problem you are experiencing is directly related to the operation
of Windows® itself, please refer to your Windows® User's Guide,
the Windows® Help file, visit one of Microsoft's numerous support web
sites or contact Microsoft® directly.

For Windows® 2000
and
XP — chkdsk
(an acronym for check disk) is a Microsoft® utility that will
check the integrity of your Windows® 2000 or XP computer's
hard drive as well as find and fix errors which could muddle data. On computers
using Windows® XP and 2000, chkdsk
is essentially a replacement for scandisk
which was used on Windows® '95, '98 and ME. |

For Windows® '95,
'98
and ME — scandisk
is a Microsoft® utility that will check the integrity of your Windows®
'95, '98 or ME computer's hard drive as well as find and fix errors which
could muddle data. Scandisk
is only used on Windows® '95, '98 and ME and does not
exist on Windows® XP or 2000 machines, which use chkdsk
