SMTP Errors

If your online Delta Translator registration or program update fails (for example, you receive an error message similar to  “it was not possible to contact the SMTP server” or if your computer "hangs up" and/or you fail to receive a message that the registration or update was successful), it is most likely because your computer cannot successfully make a connection using SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) port 25. This channel used to communicate directly between a mail client (your computer) and the mail server used by your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

If your computer cannot make an SMTP port 25 connection, it may be because your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is deliberately blocking this port. This is often done to prevent subscribers from using this channel to send spam e-mails. Some of the major ISP's that are known to block port 25  include AT&T, MSN, Earthlink, NetZero, Mindspring, Flashnet, MediaOne and Verizon. There are certainly many others.

Should you receive an SMTP Error message when attempting to register or update Delta Translator, contact your ISP to ascertain if they are blocking SMTP port 25 and request that they unblock it for you if they are. If your ISP is not blocking SMTP port 25 and you still cannot make the connection, you need to ensure that the SMTP settings in your e-mail and/or browser programs coincide with those used and required by your ISP.

Your ISP can provide you with the settings that will enable you to communicate via their (outgoing mail) SMTP server, for example: "mailhost.zzz.net". After changing this setting, your computer should be able to communicate though your ISP's servers rather than the SMTP server on your computer. If it does not, contact your ISP.

If, after checking with your ISP (Internet Service Provider), you still cannot successfully make an SMTP port 25 connection, please e-mail us us for specific instructions about how to update Delta Translator manually. These instructions can only be sent to users already listed in our database.
